Developing software to assess the seismic risk of natural gas infrastructure: OpenSRA

چکیده
As part of a multi-year study, the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research (PEER) center in conjunction with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), NHERI SimCenter at Berkeley, Slate Geotechnical Consultants (Slate), and several subcontractors, developed an open-source seismic risk analysis ( OpenSRA ) program that implements performance-based earthquake engineering (PBEE) framework using user-friendly interface, capable operating on desktop computer. This effort is made up two elements: 1) research demand capacity models, laboratory testing, finite element modeling, 2) implementing these findings into backend calculation easy-to-use interface. The SimCenter, Consultants, PEER researchers integrative method to create efficient code useful updates current models addressing different forms seismically induced ground deformation (e.g., fault rupture, liquefaction, landslide) as well shaking. It quantifies resistance buried pipelines, heads, caprocks, aboveground components, then provides for estimating uncertainty both parameters. software allows end-user utilize according resolution available data (i.e., state-wide, regional, or site-specific). interface visualization inputs motion, liquefaction potential) outputs (risk leaks/breaks) overlaid maps California. industry updated method, software. enables end-users estimate damage their infrastructure. Using risk-informed decisions utility owners proactively cost-effectively maintain

Software Infrastructure for Natural Language
We classify and review current approaches to software infrastructure for research, development and delivery of NLP systems. The task is motivated by a discussion of current trends in the eld of NLP and Language Engineering. We describe a system called GATE (a General Architecture for Text Engineering) that provides a software infrastructure on top of which heterogeneous NLP processing modules m...
متن کاملA Probabilistic Model for the Seismic Risk of Buildings. Application to Assess the Seismic Risk of Buildings in Urban Areas
A probabilistic model to estimate the seismic risk of buildings is evaluated. For this purpose a specific methodology is proposed. The developed methodology allows explicitly consider important uncertainties that are present in the main elements, that are used to estimate the seismic risk of buildings. One of these elements is the seismic vulnerability of each building, which is mainly represen...
متن کاملDeveloping an approach to assess the influence of integrating disaster risk reduction practices into infrastructure reconstruction on socio-economic development
Purpose – Disasters provide physical, social, economic, political and environmental development windows of opportunity particularly through housing and infrastructure reconstruction. The reconstruction process should not be neglected due to the opportunistic nature of facilitating innovation in development. In this respect, postdisaster ‘infrastructure’ reconstruction plays a critical role in d...
متن کاملPromoting Natural Selection in System Infrastructure Software
System infrastructure software is inherently complex, and seemingly exhibits a phenomenon similar to natural selection in biological systems [8]. Natural selection is an end result of degeneracy. That is, when a population consists of individuals that show significant structural differences yet perform essentially the same function, the structurally fittest will survive. Costs have precluded su...
